As part of the regional project “Strengthening youth resiliance to violence and crime” led by the Institute for Activism and Social Change from Albania, with partners PEN Kosovo, Shelter “Edlira Haxhiymeri” from Albania and our Association “Zemlja djece u BiH” as Bosnian partner, we carry out activities to strengthen the capacities of young people aged 15 to 30.
The main idea is to strengthen the capacities of young people in sense of personal and community safety, non-violent communication, as well as to exchange opinions, ideas and experiences without judgement, with a lot of energizing and interesting content during one-day trainings.
The ultimate goal is for empowered young people to strengthen their social engagement and advocacy for positive changes in what suits them best, but at the same time to strengthen their personal capacities and competencies, and to help them choose their future careers, which is facilitated by the expertise of our coaches.
At the first training in Tuzla, held on July 25, we empowered 25 young people.
At the second training, held on July 31 in Živinice, we empowered 20 young Roma.
The final goal of working with this group of young people is to empower them with new abilities, values, self-confidence, social connectedness, which ultimately makes them more resilient to violence, crime and radicalism. It is necessary to offer young people healthy alternatives, but also to provide them with the necessary knowledge to realize them.
The training was held according to the Manual for the Development of Youth Life Skills, which is available at the following link: https://smartbalkansproject.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/IANS-prirucnik.pdf Preview, but we tried to expand the content and offer participants of additional activities concerning employment opportunities in the context of youth safety, and practical self-defense classes as a fun and energizing activity. This manual provides a concise guide to the basic principles for trainers working with vulnerable youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, providing them with important fundamentals and life skills essential for their personal development, especially from the aspect of personal safety. In short, theoretically and through practical exercises, it helps them to help themselves and encourages them to learn independently and work on improving their abilities.
“Strengthening youth resilience to violence and crime” was supported by the Regional grant of the “SMART Balkans- Civil Society for Shared Society in the Western Balkans” regional project implemented by Centar za promociju civilnog društva (CPCD), Center for Research and Policy Making (CRPM) and Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM) and financially supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (NMFA). SMART way- be proactive!
